Module Structure: 6 Weeks
The ever increasing demand and limited availability of fossil fuels has compelled the world to seriously take the issue of efficient use of energy. Any measure taken to enhance energy efficiency is useful in several ways. Firstly, reduced use of fossil fuels is essential in lowering the emission of greenhouse gases, which contribute to global warming. Secondly, efficient use of energy reduces consumption and helps in saving money thereby yielding potential economic benefit. Energy management is the key to saving energy in any sector. It is high time we look at energy management in terms of monitoring, controlling, and conserving energy in a building or organization.
The module 'Energy Conservation and Management' is the fourth module in this programme. It describes the general aspect of energy management, energy audit and energy efficiency in thermal and electrical utilities. It also describes energy performance assessment for equipment and utilities.
